Belgarion's World for Eternal Soldier

Other Races

Maragor

Marags are the people of the god Mara. He places great emphasis on physical beauty. Thus, all Marags start with four skill levels in Sex Appeal. They also roll 3d6, drop the lowest die and add 6 for CM.

In addition, there is a Marag language, and all Marags start with four levels in both it and the common tongue. However, no Marag character may start with skill levels in any artistic skill. They concentrate on personal appearance, not art.

Having been bred for strength and physical beauty, the men are somewhat stupid. They gain four skill levels with any one non-combat athletic skill, and may choose to roll ST as above instead of CM. The downside is that they roll 4d6 and drop the highest for IN, regardless of how they roll ST and CM.

It's true that Marags gain a lot more at the start than other PCs in raw levels However, the men are largely useless for anything but athletics and breeding. The women just don't care what goes on outside Maragor.

Nyissa

Nyissans sell slaves, a practice that is illegal and thought of with great contempt in all other Western countries. They don't keep slaves of their own, though. Slaves are equivalent to Arendish serfs; however, Nyissan slaves all have their tongues cut out.

Nyissans start with four free skill levels in any one of the following skills:

There are actually several snake languages, one per species. Most do have something in common, enough for limited communication. The GM is free to require a separate skill for each species if desired. In that case, it is recommended that Extra Language (some kind of snake) default at half normal skill % to Extra Language (some other kind of snake), before any penalties are applied.

A Nyissan eunuch also gains four free skill levels in Politics. On the down side, they tend to be overweight, whiny and childish. Of course, they're missing some equipment, too.

Sendaria

Sendaria is home to the most practical people in the world. Sendars are farmers and craftsmen, merchants and fishermen. Even their few titled nobles work for their keep. Though their work is largely administrative, they have that Sendarian sense of responsibility.

The only common bad habit in Sendaria is brawling. Sendars are not known for brawling, for they don't consider it something to boast about. (Good Sendars don't really boast about anything.) Still, Sendars start with five levels in Hand-to-hand, not four.

Sendars start with four skill levels in any one skill with practical value. These levels may not be used for any combat, supernatural or purely theoretical skill; e.g., philosophy, linguistics, etc. In fact, Sendaria has only a token standing army, which doesn't get more significant combat training than the population as a whole. Sendars tend to be law-abiding citizens.

Tolnedra

Tolnedrans as a people are obsessed with money. It's generally accepted that they invented money. As such, they start with four skill levels that may be distributed as desired among skills directly involving money, business or arithmetic.

Tolnedran armor consists mainly of a breastplate, leather kilt and helm. The legionnaires also use large, square shields, which they interlock to form a wall. They carry short lances. As one, they will turn their shields, attack and reform the shield wall. Only their absolute discipline makes this tactic work, and it works very well against foot troops.
