You can set a campaign in the same nebulous city as the books. It's convenient to a truly stunning array of landscapes--seashore, forest, mountains, grasslands, lakes, etc. There probably is a place like that in the USA, but it's still awfully convenient, almost as convenient has having a father who runs a wildlife clinic and a mother who's a zoo veterinarian.
Original
When Elfangor crashed, the PCs were there. He gave them the morph ability before dying. Now they fight to defeat the Yeerks.
This campaign has the advantage that all the adventures are fresh, and the GM controls the world rules. Nothing has to match book continuity.
Spinoff
The Yeerks have established a second base, complete with a large underground Yeerk pool. It's far enough away from the first to keep the invasion going under any circumstances. Jake, Cassie, Tobias, Rachel, Marco and Ax realize they can't fight on two fronts. They bring the Escafil device and use it on the PCs.
The setup to this campaign requires only a few minutes of narration, leading up to the PCs acquiring the morph ability. However, the players may expect continuity with the books. It's up to the GM to decide if that's a good thing, or if the campaign diverges from the books at some point.
Sequel
Read Animorphs #54: The Beginning. There are so many points from which a sequel could jump off that it's not worth listing them all. It'd also present so many spoilers that even I would have a problem with it.
